Enthusiast

To create an abbreviated self description of ones self might be the hardest of tasks. So how do you go about choosing a word which is all encompassing? As a taxonomist, I engage in this task of classification and definition with much contemplation and introspection. I ponder if the word should be Enthusiast… or would it be more accurate to instead describe one as Passionate?

…contradiction is not as accurate as describing myself as diverse.

No, if I am to pick just one word to describe myself it would be “contradiction“. I am a passionate contradiction.

There are several words which take on an undue negative connotations, I believe this is one. Webster’s dictionary describes it as:

n. A statement that asserts or implies both the truth and falsity of something. A direct opposition between things compared; inconsistency.

So I will admit, I enjoy the shock value that some words bring, maybe contradiction is not as accurate as describing myself as diverse. But diversity does not allow for direct comparison, without presenting two polar opposites it is impossible to gain an appreciation for diversity.

A few examples come to mind:

Maybe I am most proud of being a world traveler having visited nearly 30 countries, but in my travels I find that I am a homebody and enjoy settling into a new culture and interacting with the locals for weeks or months at a time (rather than the touristy approach of bouncing from spot to spot seeing the highlights of a culture then going back to the hotel and watching TV).

I love structure and routine; for years I determined the type of food I was going to eat based on the day of the week it was… but I enjoy variety and am always redecorating the furniture and my surroundings.

I am open-minded and very accepting of different lifestyles or religions… but I am intolerable to ignorance

Through much contemplation and research I have an evolved understanding of world religion/theology… yet often I don’t practice what I believe to be right. Furthermore, I am open-minded and very accepting of different lifestyles or religions… but I am intolerable to ignorance and loathe people who base their political or spiritual beliefs on tradition; it is unfathomable how people with the ability to be free thinkers choose to accept the beliefs of their friends or parents without ever forming their own conclusions.

With the previous exception I would not consider myself well read, yet I am an author. Formal education has never been a priority for me yet I strongly encourage it to those who I mentor.

I am a hopeful romantic looking for one woman who intrigues and inspires me whom I can completely devote myself to… I am disappointed by love and calloused by insincerity which is reflected in my poetry.

As an epicurean I love to cook; I am quite domestic, enjoy hand-washing dishes and can sew… moreover I love good musicals and the theater… but I am still your typical piggish (luckily not chauvinistic) male.

I love listening to the classics such as Billie Holiday and Dean Martin… I also love JayZ, Nelly and Kanye.

Many describe me as intimidating despite being so approachable.

All the while I am thinking, snapping, watching, listening, tweeting and linking.
