Top 5 Best Musicals of All Time

Unlike any other genre of films, to me, musicals are the most inspiring.  Even musicals which take place in settings of persecution (such as the Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof which might make my top 10 but not in the top 5) can be uplifting.  The following are my top picks, be sure to page through my choices with the links below:

Singin’ in the Rain

Without discrediting Fred Astaire, my favorite dancers are Donald O’Conner and Gene Kelly!  Teamed up with Debbie Reynolds, this classic musical is just glorious which is why in 2007, the American Film Institute ranked this as the #5 Greatest Movie of All Time.

Favorite Scene: Although best known for the famous “Singin’ in the Rain” scene where Gene Kelly is so in love that he doesn’t even notice the rain; my favorite is the “Make Em Laugh” number where Donald O’Conner does a back-flip off a wall and is playing coy with a mannequin doll.

Favorite trivia: The script was written after the songs, and so the writers had to generate a plot into which the songs would fit.
